Body Massage

There are several types of massage therapy methods. Some of the more familiar treatments include Swedish massage and deep tissue massage, but there are many other types of massages that individuals can receive from a therapist, each with their own unique benefits.

1. Swedish Massage

Swedish massages are the most common type of massage therapy. Using pressure and friction, the therapist is able to loosen tight muscles and make clients feel more relaxed. The primary goal of a Swedish massage is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by using long strokes that return the blood to the heart.

2. Deep Tissue Massage

With deep tissue massages, the therapist uses finger pressure and the stroking of deep layers to massage tissue areas where muscles are tight and knotted. Individuals often seek deep tissue massages because this method eases chronic aches and pain found in the neck, upper back, lower back, legs, and shoulders.

3. Sports Massage

This type of massage is specifically designed with athletes in mind. Athletes often need relief from pain caused by a repetitive motion associated with their chosen activity; this is why they will often seek treatment from a professional massage therapist that specializes in sports massage therapy.

4. Shiatsu massage

Shiatsu massage relies on the use the fingers, thumbs and palm to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body. Pressure applied to points on the body promotes energy flow and corrects disharmonies throughout the patient's body.

5. Tui Na Massage

This massage is a form of bodywork based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Working along energy channels throughout the body, the Tui Na practitioner taps into these energy points, using stretches, pressure points, and joint rotations, to balance the body’s vital energy. The name of this massage therapy modality comes from the two words describing actions in the treatment: tui means “to push” and na means “to grab or squeeze.”

Foot Reflexology

Also known as zone therapy, this is a system of applying pressure to specific points on the feet done using thumb, finger, and hand massage techniques without the use of oil or lotion. The body is divided into ten equal vertical zones, five on the right and five on the left, each connected to a part of the foot. Pressing on these parts of the foot stimulates energy and releases blockages which bring relief to the corresponding zones.

Manicure & Pedicure

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands performed at home or in a nail salon. A manicure consists of filing and shaping the free edge of nails, pushing and clipping any non-living tissue , treatments with various liquids, massage of the hand, and the application of fingernail polish. When the same is applied to the toenails and feet, the treatment is referred to as a pedicure.
